Benefits of the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Credentials

What are the benefits of the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credentials?

There are many benefits to receiving the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification in the health and safety profession.

Competency

Your peers will see that you are competent in the profession. Having the letters “CSP” at the end of your name is crucial for consultants. When potential clients reach out to work with you, they will be more likely to choose you over another consultant without safety credentials.

Advancement

There is more chance for advancement in your company. If you and another safety professional are up for a promotion in the safety department, having CSP credentials will show that you are dedicated to continuous learning in the profession. Employers will likely take you more seriously as a candidate.

Compensation

You will likely receive a higher salary compensation for earning the CSP certification. Showing your management that you are dedicated to improving your skills and knowledge as a safety professional will likely lead to more money in your pocket.

Accomplishment

After you pass the CSP Exam, you will have a sense of achievement! I have found that obtaining my CSP credentials has helped me minimize my feelings of imposter syndrome because I know I passed a super hard test on the safety and health profession.

Advantage

You will have an advantage if you are looking for a new job. If you are competing with other safety professionals for the same position, the company will likely favor you over another candidate who does not have safety credentials.

What education and work experience do I need to sit for the exam?

You need at least a bachelor’s degree (it doesn’t matter what the degree is) and four years of experience where you perform safety tasks 50% of the time. You also need an additional credential as a prerequisite for the exam. For example, I passed the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) exam as a prerequisite.

How much money does the CSP Exam cost?

The application fee is $160, and the exam costs $350. To renew your CSP Credential after five years, it costs $180.

What should I study to pass the CSP exam?

I have created a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Practice Questions, Answers, and Explanations Workbook that will assist you in passing the CSP exam. You can find the workbook here.

Are the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Credentials Worth it?

I would say YES! Your hard work in studying and obtaining your CSP is worth it! From feeling great about your accomplishment to the potential for advancement, more money, and having advantages over others if looking for a job. Take the time to study and bring home those CSP credentials!
